We've been experimenting with what styles of maps work best with our new website. For example, maps built using ArcGIS Online work well for embedded maps, but don't offer much flexibility (for example, if you want to order your bookmarks in a particular way!).
We're preparing to release a new online map. Called the "Rhode Island Subaqueous Soil Explorer," it's designed to be a very easy way to explore Rhode Island's coastal waters, see where subaqueous soils are mapped, and quickly get to more information about these soils. A highlight of the map is a series of helpful bookmarks that will help you to quickly move from one coastal pond from another as you explore, plus add your own custom bookmarks.
In case you're interested in getting under this hood, this new map is being built using the Esri ArcGIS Viewer for Flex as well as ArcGIS Server map services hosted by the URI Environmental Data Center.
Keep an eye on this blog for an announcement when the RI Subaqueous Soil Explorer goes "live"!
